Marking 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Türkiye and China are strengthening their bilateral relationship through enhanced cooperation in various sectors such as trade, technology, energy, and regional affairs. Türkiye’s Ambassador to China, Selçuk Ünal, emphasized that the relationship is rooted in centuries-old interactions that trace back to the historic Silk Road. This ancient trade route facilitated exchanges in commerce, culture, and diplomacy between the two great civilizations.
Formal diplomatic relations between Türkiye and China were inaugurated in 1971 and have witnessed significant growth over the decades. Today, China stands as Türkiye’s largest trading partner, with the bilateral trade volume exceeding $50 billion annually. The two countries have made strides in connectivity, boosting the number of passenger and cargo flights between major cities, thus enhancing economic engagement and diplomatic presence across China with several consulates.
Ambassador Ünal highlighted that both nations are committed to furthering their collaboration in vital sectors including artificial intelligence, green energy, infrastructure, and commerce. He noted that Ankara and Beijing often share aligned perspectives on many international and regional matters, focusing on peace, stability, development, and conflict prevention efforts.
With a strategic vision set by their respective leaders, Türkiye and China aim to advance their partnership by concentrating on long-term economic growth and regional cooperation. The collaborative efforts are set to not only bolster economic ties but also reinforce their shared commitment to addressing global challenges and promoting mutual development.
