Tensions between Iran and the United States have persisted for years, affecting not only the two nations but also the broader international community. Amid these ongoing challenges, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged both countries to exercise restraint and embrace diplomatic negotiations as a path forward. This appeal was made during talks held in Beijing with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Wang Yi emphasized that the conflict between Washington and Tehran does not benefit the involved parties or the global community at large. He called for both nations to revisit their existing memorandum of understanding and to rebuild their negotiation process based on prior agreements. By advocating for a return to diplomacy, Wang aims to foster stability in a region that has long been fraught with geopolitical tensions.
One significant aspect of Wang’s remarks was his call for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global energy supplies and international shipping routes. He highlighted the importance of maintaining stability in this area to ensure the continuity of global supply chains. Furthermore, Wang urged neighboring countries to prevent the spread of tensions to regions such as Yemen and the Red Sea, advocating for disputes to be resolved through dialogue.
In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi expressed Iran’s willingness to return to diplomatic solutions while safeguarding its national interests. Araghchi affirmed that Tehran considers the existing memorandum with the U.S. to be valid and expressed readiness to work with regional nations to improve relations and security. Additionally, Araghchi welcomed China’s initiatives for enhancing peace and stability in the Middle East and voiced Iran’s interest in deepening cooperation with Beijing.
