During discussions with Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping reiterated China’s commitment to a two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Xi underscored the importance of restarting peace talks and the prompt establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He highlighted the urgency of ensuring a comprehensive ceasefire, safeguarding civilians, continuing humanitarian efforts, and reaching a political resolution grounded in international law.
President Xi emphasized the necessity for Palestinians to have self-governance, particularly in the administration of the West Bank and the rebuilding of Gaza. This approach aligns with China’s broader diplomatic stance on supporting Palestinian sovereignty and the pursuit of lasting peace in the region.
Beyond the discussions on Middle Eastern peace, the meeting also focused on enhancing the strategic partnership between China and Jordan. Both leaders agreed to broaden their collaboration in various sectors, including trade, infrastructure, transportation, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and green energy. These areas of cooperation are intended to bolster economic ties and foster mutual growth.
Following their talks, several cooperation agreements were signed, marking a significant step in the China-Jordan relationship. This development reflects a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for partnership, amid a backdrop of regional and global challenges.
