Rupert Grint is stepping back into the shoes of Ron Weasley for the Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” marking his return to the character that he embodied for over a decade in the beloved film series. Grint, now 34, will grace the stage for a 17-week stint starting in February 2027, a role that comes over ten years after the Harry Potter movies concluded. Alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, Grint helped bring J.K. Rowling’s iconic characters to life across eight films.
Reflecting on his return, Grint expressed a deep connection to the character, noting that Ron Weasley has been an integral part of his life since he was a child. He remarked on the unique experience of revisiting Ron at a stage where both he and the character are depicted as fathers, which adds layers of both nostalgia and newness to the role.
Grint’s return to the Harry Potter universe on Broadway follows in the footsteps of his former co-star Tom Felton, who recently reprised his role as Draco Malfoy in the same production. Felton’s engagement is set to continue until January, providing audiences with a chance to see the original film actors bring their characters back to life on stage.
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” first lit up the stage in London in 2016, and since then, it has expanded globally, reaching audiences across multiple productions. The New York leg of the show has been a massive success, selling over 14 million tickets worldwide and generating more than $532 million in revenue.
Beyond his work in the Harry Potter series, Grint made his Broadway debut in 2014 with the comedy “It’s Only a Play.” His acting repertoire has since expanded to include roles in films such as “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.” As Grint returns to the magical world of wizards, a new Harry Potter television series is in the works for HBO, promising to introduce the enchanting tale to a fresh generation of fans.
